13 Reasons for chicks to like Nationals Baseball!

1. They’re a more newly established team (2005). No risk of being a bandwagoner. Factually incorrect; the Nats-Expos franchise was established in 1969, and re-located in 2005 after MLB purchased the team. Also, unless you were around for 2008-2009, the two seasons they only won 59 games each season (102 and 103 losses, respectively), I reserve the right to call you a bandwagoner, because you’re now only paying attention to the team since they’re winning.
2. You can actually see them in real life, the Nats aren’t so high profile that you can’t afford tickets. IN REAL LIFE? NO WAY. Actually, the Nationals don’t have the lowest average ticket price in the Majors - that belongs to the Arizona Diamondbacks, with Pittsburgh and Milwaukee following. Not to mention the cost of getting to DC for a lot of people can often outweigh the low ticket prices, but I digress.
3. If you hit up enough Potomac Nationals games, blood drives, etc you can even MEET them. This applies to pretty much every team in existence ever.
4. They will sign things for you. See above.
5. They’re underdogs, but right now they’re in 2nd in MLB:) Underdogs, sure. But they’ve only played 16 games. Let’s be realistic here. The Orioles are still in second place in the AL East and we all know where they’ll be come July.
6. Baseball players have really nice butts. And you get to see a lot of them;) False. Speaking as someone who’s been around Major Leaguers pretty much my entire life and has more than enough clubhouse experience, no. The baseball pants give them more credit than they deserve.
7. Jesus Flores Is a backup catcher to Wilson Ramos with a history of injury problems.
8. Gio Gonzalez is brand new to this team and hasn’t pitched enough yet for me to form a solid opinion. Good left-handed pitcher, and a very likable guy from what my father tells me.
9. Michael Morse Is good looking and very nice and hits real well apparently now (we’ll see if he can continue his success of last year after he actually gets back from the DL though), but is not the sharpest tool in the shed.
10. Jayson Werth Is the saltiest guy on the team and not approachable in the least. He’s also married and has two children. Why is he on this list?
11. Rick Ankiel is a good defensive outfielder who apparently can only find the strike zone from 370 feet away. Nice guy, but also married, also with kids.
12. Danny Espinosa Is a pretty awesome guy, despite the fact that his second half of the 2011 season was, uh, lackluster. I’d rather see him be consistent through an entire year first.
13. Craig Stammen will probably be demoted back to Triple-A once Chien-Ming Wang is back and they throw Det in the bullpen.

As much as Craig Stammen should be an Abercrombie model and not a pitcher, please watch the ballgames for the ballgame and not because you’re a stupid bitty jock-sniffer. For the love of god, don’t make me hate the Nationals fan base as much as I hate the Capitals fan base sometimes.

Hold up, hold up, hold the fuck up.

Yeah, I think that people should enjoy sports, understand the games, appreciate the finer points of athletic achievement (I personally appreciate barehanded catches and outfield assists), be knowledgeable about what they’re watching. But if you wanna ogle the players in your spare time, too, there’s nothing wrong with that. Shit, Wilson Ramos’ dimples are one of the reasons I get up in the morning. It doesn’t mean I also don’t understand the infield fly rule. You can have your baseball and your beefcakes, too. Implying that the smashing good looks of the team members is a good reason for a girl to watch baseball is sexist, I’ll hand you that, but I don’t see an issue with it as a perk of fandom.

Also, if you weren’t around for 2008 and 2009, you’re a bandwagon fan? I didn’t start watching baseball until 2010. I had no fucking clue who Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper were. I just wanted a team and these were the guys I chose. Stop making sweeping generalizations about people when you don’t know exactly what their story is.

TL;DR: This was pretty fucking elitist.
